SUNFLOWER CELEBRATES 30 YEARS FOUNDER CELEBRATES 80 YEARS

A double celebration on September 7^th will mark the 30^th anniversary of Sunflower Presents and the 80^th birthday of its founder, community arts advocate Marian Jacobs. 

To celebrate these two milestones, community volunteers and former Stocktonians of the Year, Thelma Stewart and Mimi Eberhardt, are serving as co-chairs of a fundraising party in the gardens of Stewart’s lovely home.

The $100 a plate event, entitled “Denim & Diamonds”, will feature a volunteer concert by San Joaquin County’s own Joni Morris.  It is Marian’s wish that event proceeds benefit Sunflower Presents.

The Sunflower Board of Directors Fundraising Committee is currently recruiting advance sponsorships from business and individuals throughout the county.  Seating will be limited to 300. 

A big THANK YOU to Marian for founding and nurturing Sunflower.

About Sunflower Presents

Sunflower Presents is an independent community based, non-profit organization designed to provide free, live entertainment to the confined and disabled, helping them re-establish contacts with the outside community, and nurturing their individual worth.

Sunflower Presents was founded in 1977 by Marian Jacobs and Marilyn Robertson, and was patterned after the late Mimi Farina’s Bread & Roses in Marin County.

How have we successfully operated for so many years? First, through the generosity of hundreds of volunteer performers, sharing their talents with those to whom live entertainment is not often or easily accessible. And secondly, through the financial support of the many giving and caring citizens in our community.

Thanks to the many volunteer performers and caring donors, Sunflower Presents provides over hundreds of free performances a year to nearly 65 care facilities in San Joaquin County – everything from musical combos, singers, dancers (even belly dancing), comics, magicians, and other talented artists.

For many of the confined, Sunflower Presents performers are their only “hands-on” connection with the community, and we love bringing sunshine into their lives as often as we can.
